Indole heterocycles continue to be a prevalent motif within natural products, metabolites, and pharmaceutical targets. Contrary to most methodologies, utilization of C-H functionalization to access the indole moiety allows for a highly atom economical synthesis of this core framework from sustainable building blocks. Previously this transformation was demonstrated using 100% oxygen but this atmosphere has safety implications in the presence of organic solvent, particularly on scale. Here we describe our application to select substrates as well as our efforts to better understand the reaction’s parameters and kinetics.
