Hydrogels that are formed with dynamic crosslinking received increasing interests for their rich mechanical behaviors under stress and deformation and wide applications for cell scaffolding and delivery. Unlike permanently crosslinked hydrogels, dynamic crosslinking can dissociate under shear stress and reform upon the release of stress, resulting in both shear-thinning and self-healing characteristics. We present a new concept of modulating the dynamics of hydrogels via organocatalysis using a dynamically crosslinked hyaluronan hydrogel system. Such hydrogels show great potentials as tunable scaffolding for cell culture and cell delivery.
