Open Access continues to take hold within the scientific publishing industry as more governments, institutions and funders than ever before either require, or soon will require, the research they fund be published OA. This is a natural evolution as scientists, policymakers, educators, funders and publishers work in an increasingly vibrant research world where multimedia data, new types of research outputs and real-time online discussions are altering the way the community works, communicates and cooperates. Attendees of this presentation will learn how Open Access is morphing into Open Science -- a world  in which the publication process ensures that research outcomes are discoverable, accessible and available for discussion and that science communication is constructive, transparent and verifiable. Attendees will also learn how PLOS strives to implement policies and innovations that promote reproducibility, credit and accountability, as these priorities support establishment of an Open Science culture, with open data, early sharing of work and clear contributor recognition. With future advances in machine-readable formats and text and data mining, Open Access has the potential to propel Open Science forward into new and exciting territory. <br/>
