I give many research lectures that tell a cogent story of intent and success.  However, the real story behind those lectures is usually quite convoluted and rife with failure, repurposing and serendipity.  The story of my early career experiences provides a metaphor for how research often unfolds.  This presentation will hopefully give perspective on the reality behind the veneer of a “successful” researcher.<br/>
