Chemetry has pioneered a new technology platform that combines electrochemical and catalytic reaction processes to produce caustic soda and a suite of chlorinated chemicals. Through the use of a novel copper chloride shuttle reaction, shown below, the new technology greatly reduces the power consumed and makes the production safer by avoiding the use of elemental chlorine as an intermediate. This process utilizes the same feed stocks and produces the same products compared to conventional chlor-alkali and direct chlorination. At our facility in Moss Landing, CA, we currently operate a pilot plant for the production of NaOH and 1,2 dichloroethane (EDC). Through a relationship with our partner, Technip, we are now advancing the process to demonstration scale. In this presentation, we will discuss results from the development of the highly selective catalytic reaction process as well as data from the integrated pilot facility used to demonstrate production of EDC.
