Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) still receive tremendous attention once they address both diversity and complexity in organic synthesis. Using these one- pot strategies, diverse sets of relatively complex structures, especially heterocycles, can be generated from simple starting materials.<br/>In this talk, we are going to present our results on the combination of an organocatalytic conjugate addition with an isocyanide-based multicomponent reaction for the synthesis of cyclic compounds and natural product-like hybrids. Such interplay between organocatalysis and MCRs allows the tunable diversification of up to five structural elements, facilitating the rapid exploration of a large chemical space.[1]<br/>Furthermore, our recent findings on photochemical reaction under metal free conditions for the synthesis of biologically relevant structural units will be also presented.[2]
