Insertion of CO2 into palladium POCOP-pincer hydride complexes gives palladium formate complexes, which can be reduced by catecholborane (HBcat) to afford CH3OBcat and regenerate the palladium hydrides. Comparing the catalytic performance of these palladium hydrides with their nickel analogs in reduction of CO2 with HBcat shows a profound influence of the metal on the overall reduction process. Related palladium POCOP-pincer thiolate complexes approve to be more efficient and robust catalysts.
