The tragic death of Sheri Sangji and the subsequent legal settlement between UCLA and the Los Angeles District Attorney had wide-reaching impacts on Chemistry departments at all the UC campuses. This talk will discuss the initial implementation of the settlement requirements from the perspective of graduate students doing the implementation from the ground up in one laboratory at UC Davis. We will also discuss how implementation has changed and will continue to change going forward, and give recommendations for other universities that are actively trying to develop a culture of safety in the research laboratory.
