Porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as a unique class of crystalline solids have shown enormous potential for a wide range of energy related applications. Over the past 20 years MOFs have become one of the most intensively and extensively explored material families. As a relatively new type of solid adsorbents, porous MOFs have demonstrated numerous advantages over conventional/traditional sorbent systems because of their essentially unlimited tunability of crystal/pore structures and adsorption properties. Among many interesting topics, gas adsorption and separation making use of MOF adsorbents have received the most attention. This talk will focus on our recent development on designing and synthesizing MOFs for energy-saving, cost-effective and highly-selective gas capture and separation in several important industrial separation processes. Our studies show that both adsorption capacity and selectivity of MOFs can be enhanced substantially by engineering their crystal structure, porosity, chemical composition and surface functionality in a rational and systematic manner.<br/>
