Metal plasmonic nanoparticles represent unique class of materials which can efficiently concentrate light and funnel collected energy through the photovoltaic devices. Such energy transfer might have a significant impact on the device characteristics if the plasmon energy is directly converted to excitons in the semiconductor acceptor. Here we report a spectroscopic technique for the determination of the energy transfer between metal and semiconductor domains in nanocrystal films. Using a sample of colloidal nanoparticles as an optical filter which removes the portion of the excitation light, we were able to measure the energy transfer rate between Au and PbS nanocrystals.
