Controlling matter has been identified as a key scientific Grand Challenge. Control can be the selective excitation of specific quantum levels, or a specific dynamic behavior. Similarly, control may include chemical reactions and transformations. This talk will outline progress from our group in creating the sources required to achieve such control of matter, and the application of these resources to a number of fundamental and applied projects ranging from biomedical imaging to standoff detection of explosives.
