Copper-catalyzed oxidative cross-couplings of aryl boronic acids with aryl- and alkylamines have been accomplished across a wide substrate scope in the presence of a Ru-photoredox cocatalyst under mild aerobic conditions. This modified C−N cross-coupling reaction allows the incorporation of unactviated alkylamines to both electron poor− and electron-rich boronic acids under minimal Ru-photoredox cocatalyst loadings. Initial results demonstrate the efficiency of the coupling to be acceptable during the procedurally improved process. In order to aid further methodology development, mechanistic investigations are proposed to illuminate the role of the Ru-photoredox catalyst in the copper catalytic cycle.
