Tooth extraction is general surgery in the mouth. After tooth extraction, patient must bite gauze to take pressure and absorb excess blood to stop bleeding. This way can stop bleeding and create blood clotting about 30 minutes to 1 hour up to the pressure and blood clotting time for each healthy person but for most of children and older do not have sufficiency pressure to stop bleeding that cause of excessive blood. Moreover, texture of gauze can damage the wound by removing blood clotting and start bleeding again. So, hemostatic foam is significant to stop bleeding and also absorb the pressure at the wound site. In this study, foam was prepared by blending corn starch (CS) with carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCs) by using glutraldehyde as a crosslinking agent. CS is interesting materials due to that it is inexpensive, bio-degradable and bio-compatibity to the human cell. CMCs also has a haemostatic property and excellent water absorption. Physical and chemical properties of foams; compressive behaviour, water uptake and stability were carried out to optimize a function of material. Plus, <i>in vitro</i> cytotoxicity on human fibroblast cells by MTT assay was also studied to verify that it can be used in human tissue.
