Verdazyls are stable free radicals that have the ability to coordinate metal ions analogously to polypyridyl ligands. Recent reports also indicate that coordinated verdazyls are redox active resulting in unusual electronic structures. We report results from coordination of metal ions to both verdazyl terpyridine analogs, and also ditopic verdazyls capable of self assembly to form metallo-organic grid structures.  Not surprisingly the latter show remarkably complex behavior with chemistry associated with the multiple ligands as well as the multiple metal centers.  Results presented will discuss the methods used for complex data analysis, as well as our understanding of the chemistry to this point.
