Developing High-charge voltage platform provides the advantages of large capacity and help improving energy density of lithium-ion battery (LIB). To this end, continuous efforts are made to develop cathode materials suitable for high discharge voltage and stable electrolyte system. Generally, conventional electrolyte systems used in the LIB show oxidative instability beyond 4.5 V operation. Here we demonstrate functional electrolyte that contain additives that stabilize the LIB above cutoff voltage of 4.5 V. Robust SEI formation on the electrode surface led to stable operation of LIB which was confirmed by the charge-discharge cycling profiles up to 200 cycles, surface investigation, dQ/dV plot, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
