This paper explores the extent of the informational odor gap existing between the capabilities of standard analytical methods and the capabilities of the human nose and proposes the use of the odor profile method as a method to quantify odorants within that odor gap. Also, it proposes the use of odor activity values as a way to prioritize odorants for the purposes of air dispersion modelling and design of odor abatement systems.
