Mixed donor ligands are a valuable class of compounds that be used to tailor the steric and electronic environments of metal centers. The synthesis and characterization of novel ligands containing O, N, and S binding sites provides a catalogue of new compounds for the investigations into effects on the chemical and spectroscopic properties of metal centers. Further, the preparation of cyclic and non-cyclic mixed donor ligands provides another dimension to explore their effects on the properties of coordination compounds. The free ligands and complexes were analyzed using various technique, including X-ray crystallography, NMR, and UV/visible spectroscopy. Crystallographic analysis of the free ligands shows a variety of intermolecular interactions in the solid state leading to unique array of structures. The investigations have shown that the mixed O, N, S donor ligands can be used to prepare novel metal complexes with a variety of properties.
