Touro College's Lander College for Men (LCM) is a small undergraduate school serving a population of Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox men. All LCM students are enrolled in a dual curriculum, spending a large portion of their time studying Talmud and Judaic studies in several organized programs, while simultaneously pursuing undergraduate degrees in an academic field. Many LCM students attended Ultra-Orthodox high schools with minimal secular education prior to enrolling at LCM, and nearly all LCM students spend between 1 and 3 years studying in seminaries in Israel between high school and college.<br/>This student population presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities to the science educator. Anecdotal and quantitative data indicate that our science students, almost all of whom are pursuing careers in the health professions, such as physician, dentist, physical therapy, or physician's assistant, have a great deal of success in their academic careers. LCM's acceptance rate to professional schools is above 90%, and the graduation rate is well above 50% overall. This success comes despite the frequently limited secular education, weak mathematical preparation, and that many of our students come from poor and non-English speaking homes, a combination not usually associated with this population. In addition, there are numerous challenges in teaching certain areas of the sciences to a generally highly conservative and highly traditional population.<br/>
