Both the catalytic cycle and stereoselection process of these asymmetric reactions will be presented in detail. These reactions provide up to three contiguous stereocenters in one step from achiral starting materials. As such the factors favoring one of the many potential transition states are discussed. The critical roles of specific additives in silencing the (racemic) background reaction and aiding in catalyst turnover will also be explored.
