Developing highly efficient photocatalysts for water splitting is one of the grand challenges in solar energy conversion. This talk will discuss the rational design and synthesis of porous conjugated polymer (PCP) that photocatalytically generates hydrogen from water splitting. A series of PCPs have been synthesized with different light harvesting chromophores and transition metal binding bipyridyl (bpy) sites. The relationship between photocatalytic activity and structures of these bpy-containing PCPs will be discussed. It will also discussed the role of residual metal nanoparticles and chemical oxidation of water to evolve oxygen.
