Students in First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs) at the University of Oregon collectively explore a theme framed by two lecture courses, in this case General Chemistry and Environmental Studies – Social Sciences.  In the Science for Social Change FIG, students develop an understanding and appreciation of green chemistry in the context of environmental justice.  This talk will focus on the topics and organization of the course, as well as the challenges associated with trying to teach two difficult and complex topics to fall term freshmen in a one-credit seminar course.
