One of the critical aims of the POGIL approach is to promote and improve the following process skills: information processing, critical thinking, problem solving, management, teamwork, communication, and assessment. While many of these skills are enhanced by the collaborative work environment, the assessment skill (gathering information and reflecting on experiences to improve subsequent learning and performance) can often be overlooked or not directly encouraged or rewarded. Many POGIL practitioners employ the use of roles within groups to facilitate student process skill development including the role of Reflector or Strategy Analyst. The individual assigned to this role in the group can give oral or written feedback to summarize key concepts, comment on a targeted process skill, or identify unresolved questions after completion of an activity. The roles rotate each class period to allow all students to further develop this skill. In addition to the Reflector role, all students engage in self reflection immediately after each class examination in my course. Individuals are required to identify their study resources, the number of hours studied, predict their exam score, as well as answer questions about their strengths, areas for improvement, or characteristics of successful group dynamics. Short videos about how to study and learn are also viewed in an effort to improve assessment and metacognition. Strategies for targeting this process skill and the results of the students' self-assessment of exam performance will be shared.<br/>
