This presentation focuses on the development and evolution of a chemistry and physics science course (Science & Culture I) that introduces undergraduate students to the interdisciplinary nature of the application of science methodology to problems of civic and conservation importance.  The design of this course is inherently research-based and involves the engagement of large class sections of diverse students from different majors (including natural and applied science majors) and backgrounds to rigorous data collection, analysis, and display.  The current work focuses on the landscape-level examination of a historic zoo and an urban wetland riparian system around concepts of water quality and thermal energy.  These projects have resulted in the development of partnerships with key local conservation entities and businesses and demonstrate the value of crowd-sourced data collection by student citizen scientists to facilitate the work of professionals working in the realm of environmental strategic planning.<br/>
