In recent years, glycerol has been upgraded to many value added compounds such 1,3-propandiol, propene, acrylic acid and many others.  Most recently it has been used as a stoichiometric reductant for sulfoxide derivatives.  In this study glycerol was used via a molybdenum catalyzed redox cycle to reduce N-oxide derivatives.  Use of the biomass derived reductant allow for a green system with high conversions and easy separation. Substrate scope and mechanistic details will be presented. A comparison to other Molybdenum catalyzed deoxygenation reactions will be presented.
