In the attempt to rationally design and manufacture electrodes for solid state electrochemical applications, the most important prerequisite for doing so is a fundamental understanding of the chemistry taking place on the electrode itself. This presenation focuses on the oxygen chemistry of the oxide electrode surfaces. We have studied the oxygen incorporation and evolution taking place on the surface of perovskite oxides. In particular, we here report on the thermodynamics and kinetics on a well known perovskite LaxSr1-xFeO3-δ based on density functional theory simulations and operando spectroscopic investigations.
