Progress in atmospheric chemistry is made by integrating results from field observations, lab measurements and modeling studies and is closely coupled with the development of theoretical and experimental tools. Over the past few decades, significant attention has been focused on studying the fate and chemical transformation of natural and anthropogenic emissions in the gas and particle phase to better understand their impact on the environment and human health.  This, in turn, has helped drive technology developments. Work from our lab has been focused on the development and application of advanced mass spectrometric methods for field and laboratory studies that have helped enable rapid characterization and improved understanding of atmospheric chemistry processes. This presentation will review our work and highlight key results relating to chemical and microphysical properties of atmospheric aerosol and gas phase aerosol precursors from both laboratory and field measurements. <br/>
