More than ever before, a company’s value is largely based on the strength of its intellectual property (IP). But federal protection for common IP assets like trademarks and copyrights—and even some patents—can be elusive for companies in the cannabis industry due to federal prohibitions on possessing and selling marijuana-related products. How can companies in the cannabis industry build IP value while cannabis remains listed as a Schedule 1 drug? And even if cannabis-related IP assets are obtainable, can they be used as collateral in fundraising? In this session, we will explore options for securing and leveraging a strong IP portfolio for cannabis-related companies.
