Nowadays more and more chemicals which cannot be efficiently removed by conventional treatment technology are detected in drinking water supplies and treated water effluent. Those refractory compounds including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, hormones, and musk agents may have detrimental impacts on human health and ecosystem. In present study, UV based-advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) were applied to simultaneously remove eight emerging contaminants (ECs), including erythromycin (ERM), diclofenac (DCF), bisphenol A (BPA), 4-nonylphenol (4-NP), ibuprofen (IBP), triclosan (TCS), 17β-estradiol (E2), and 17α-ethinyl estradiol (EE2). UV-C alone, low-pressure (LP)-UV-C/H2O2 and mercury-free light-emitting diode (LED)-UV-C/H2O2 were evaluated and compared for the destruction of these target pollutants. Degradation parameters such as initial concentration of H2O2 and pollutants are being investigated and optimized. Total organic carbon (TOC) and the amount of produced low-molecular weight acid are being measured to evaluate the mineralization of mixed compound by LP-UV-C/H2O2. Additionally, the influence of initial concentration of H2O2, common anions (e.g., Cl−, NO3−, SO42−, and HCO3−), pH and natural organic matter (NOM) on LP-UV-C/H2O2 was explored through the degradation of DCF and TCS. Real water samples were used to study the application of (LP)-UV-C/H2O2.Structural destruction of DCF and TCS were then further evaluated by Q-TOF LC/MS/MS. Finally, the bioanalytical and cytotoxicity studies for the treated water by LP-UV-C/H2O2 are being carried out to test the applicability of the proposed treatment methods.
