As the PhD-holding STEM workforce trends toward an increasingly diverse range of job roles, graduate students and postdocs are seeking support beyond their academic mentors to make career choices, develop skills, create application documents, and prepare to transition into a new professional role. Nationwide, institutions are responding with a host of curriculum, training, and support opportunities for PhD students and postdocs, designed to enable exploration and pursuit of career options, as well as development of professional skills. One example of this is the creation or expansion of graduate career advising professionals.<br/><br/>For 30 years, the Graduate Career Consortium (GCC) has provided a national resource for professionals who provide career support to graduate students and postdocs. Our organization has grown exponentially in the past three years, in parallel with the growing number and variety of graduate career options and career resources. Through resource and idea-sharing in the GCC, we have been able to connect and collaborate in our work with STEM graduate students at our respective (but very different!) institutions. We will introduce and describe some of the most commonly used/beneficial career development tools and resources for grad students, and discuss how they fit into the lifecycle of STEM graduate student and postdoctoral training. We will also discuss how audience members may be able to incorporate these tools into their own work with students, partner across a campus, and complement or enhance graduate student and postdoctoral career development.
