Borazines are important compounds that contain a six-membered ring of alternating boron and nitrogen atoms, which presently have wide applications in the materials sciences as electroluminescent devices and boron nitride film precursors. Polycyclic borazines with three adjacent 1,3,2-oxazaborolidine rings were prepared by the reaction of borane with aromatic 1,2-aminoalcohols at room temperature, followed by a subsequent trimerization of the intermediate by heating the oxazaborolidine up to 170 C. The borazines derived from aminophenol, norephedrine and aminoindanol were obtained with up to 94% yield, and characterized by 1H, 13C and 11B NMR, and FT-IR analysis. The photo-physical and conductivity properties of the synthetized polycyclic borazines will be presented.
