(-)-Sparteine, a tetracyclic lupin alkaloid, has long been used as a chiral ligand in enantioselective deprotonations and additions. (-)-Sparteine, which is obtained from natural resources, is expensive and its antipode is even more difficult to acquire. This project aims to develop a synthesis of a surrogate for (-)-sparteine and its antipode from readily accessible starting materials. We propose to exploit the bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane intermediate in our synthetic route to create a new library of ligands, including chiral phosphines, phosphoric acids, and cyclams.<br/>
