The renaissance in photochemistry driven by the broad utility of visible light activated photocatalysts has revolutionized radical-based approaches. The recent fusion of this type of photochemistry with transition metal-mediated catalysis has resulted in unprecedented access to new chemical space under very mild conditions. In the context of exploring this dual catalysis, several precursor classes for C-centered radicals have been realized, among which are silicon-based reagents. Application of two classes of silicon-based radical forbears in the dual catalytic manifold and the extension of these precursors to non-dual catalytic photoredox processes will be discussed.
