The responsible conduct of research lies at the core of the chemical research enterprise and therefore is of great importance to all chemists.  At the 2016 Fall ACS National Meeting, representatives of the ACS Ethics Committee (ETHX) exhibited an interactive poster at both the CHED and the SCI-MIX Poster Sessions posing four questions on research ethics to the Membership.  The objective was to learn what resources members consult on research ethics and what research ethics issues members find most challenging.  Attendees posted responses using color-coded sticky notes to one or more questions on the poster which were analyzed using grounded theory.  Responses were coded independently by the co-authors using open coding and categories identified. Constant comparison analysis and dimensional analysis were used to identify core dimensions and realize a theoretical model.   Our findings suggest that there is much room for improvement concerning ACS members’ awareness of existing research ethics resources and provide insight concerning areas where members need help.  In our presentation, we will present an overview of the study including the methodology used to collect data from attendees, the results of the analysis using grounded theory, and the implications for educators providing research ethics education and training to graduate and undergraduate students.
