CO2 hydrogenation to methanol has attracted increasing attention. We previously reported a theoretical study and suggested that Pd/In2O3 has a high activity for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. The Pd-In2O3 interfacial sites are the active ones from the theoretical study. However, the experimental study found that the intense interaction between Pd and In2O3 leads to the formation of PdIn bimetallic species and reduces the selectivity of methanol. To solve this problem, we prepared the Pd/In2O3 catalyst by firstly mixing In2O3 powder with Pd/peptide composite. The mixture is then subject to calcination thermally to remove the peptide. By this way, the intense Pd-In2O3 interaction is avoided. Highly dispersed Pd-nanoparticles with particle size of ~ 2 nm are obtained with a superior performance of the Pd/In2O3 catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. A CO2 conversion &gt; 20% has been achieved with a methanol selectivity &gt; 70% at STY up to 0.89 gMeOH h-1 gcat-1 and 300 °C and 5MPa.
