Environmental catalytic oxidation generally includes chemical catalytic oxidation and biological catalytic oxidation. They are both effective for pollutant degradation and transformation. In this talk, enrichment at nano-interface will be highlighted for enhancing environmental catalytic oxidation. Firstly for enhancement of chemical catalytic oxidation, porous nitrogen doped activated porous carbon ultra-fine fibers were designed for enrichment of organic pollutants, which presenting a ultrahigh specific surface area and pore volume of 2085 m2 g-1 and 1.12 cm3 g-1, respectively. Fe, Co, and alloyed Fe-Co catalytic nanocrystals can be in-situ anchored on/in the fibrous supports by carbonization process at high temperature in N2 flow without any other reducing gases. The as prepared catalysts exhibited fast activation of sulfate radicals (SO4−) for typically stubborn pollutants degradation (e.g., methylene blue, phenol, bisphenol-S, chlorophenol, sulfamethoxazole) as well as good stability, recyclability (＞5 cycles) and realized high mineralization (40-70%). For biological catalytic oxidation, taking microbial fuel cells as an application model, a bio-inspired active anode was designed by coating PPy nanotubular sucker arrays on carbon textiles to improve the crucial extracellular electron transfer process in MFCs. The oxygen in the inner space of nanosucker is depleted by exoelectrogenic microorganisms having the capability of facultative respiration, forming a vacuum in the nanotubular space, which then activates the electrode to enrich the microorganism by suction and thus improve the interaction between the biofilm and anode. Thus the catalytic transformation of organic pollutants in water was enhanced. This strategy was also extended to biological catalytic denitrification.
