Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is a major global health challenge not well-served by available clinical diagnostic methods to either detect LTBI or assess reactivation risk. In hopes of constructing a more detailed biomarker-based diagnostic fingerprint for LTBI, we have developed a multiplexed cytokine assay on a silicon photonic detection platform to assess patient PBMC response to antigen stimulations. Feature selection analysis revealed multiple biomarkers having high correlation to defined clinical determinations, including LTBI status and reactivation risk. These results represent potential improvements over current diagnostic methods and suggest that multi-marker signatures might enable a precision medicine-based approach to LTBI management.
