Spider silks have a unique combination of strength and elongation, making them attractive for use in a wide variety of products from medical to military. Our recent discovery of a method to easily solubilize recombinant spider silk proteins in aqueous solutions has allowed us to greatly expand the possible uses for spider silk protein.  These include: films, fibers, gels, adhesives and coatings.  The properties of these various forms of spider silk will be discussed. Examples include: coatings that prevent infection and fouling, adhesives with strengths higher than many commercial glues and gels that have widely varying properties depending simply on their processing.  <br/>
