Chemistry really is the central science. Discoveries in chemistry provide us with–among other things–lifesaving drugs, critical sources of energy, and remarkable insights into the natural world. To make sure that our field continues to benefit mankind, the staff of ACS's External Affairs and Communications (EAC) team works with policymakers and other members of the scientific community to promote policies that support the practice of chemistry and its ability to deliver novel solutions to global challenges. This talk will describe how ACS fits into the Washington policy landscape, what EAC staff do to support chemistry and the role of science in public life, and how ACS members can get involved in the policymaking process. This talk will also describe the ACS Public Policy Fellowship program and provide information about how you can become the next ACS Science Policy or Congressional fellow.
