The sole criterion of the scientific Excellence is taken into account to evaluate a research proposal submitted to the ERC's calls. Evaluation of excellence is at two levels: the excellence of the research project, that has to deals with ground-breaking, high-gain/ high-risk research and the excellence of the Principal Investigator (PI) in terms of intellectual capacity, creativity and commitment. A chemist can apply to different evaluation panels according to the content of his/her proposal. The chemistry-oriented panels are the PE4 "Physical and Analytical Chemical Sciences" and the PE5 "Synthetic Chemistry and Materials". The PE4/PE5 Panel Evaluator will share his/her experience on the evaluation of proposals highlighting the aspects that make a PI's CV and project to succeed or to fail in the ERC panels of Chemistry. He/she will particularly focus on the following topics: 1. Experience as an ERC panel member for the evaluation of Chemistry proposals; 2. Most common mistakes/faults observed in submitted proposals; 3. Things to pay attention to when writing a proposal; 4. Things to pay attention during the interview ( for the Starting and Consolidator grants).
