Monica Ramirez Basco is a clinical psychologist, author, and health scientist administrator at the National Institutes of Health. She is an internationally recognized expert in cognitive-behavioral therapy, a founding fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and an accomplished scholar of the human mind. She has published 9 books including the Procrastinators Guide to Getting Things Done and NEVER GOOD ENOUGH: How to use Perfectionism to Your Advantage Without Letting it Ruin Your Life. She was formerly on the faculty of the University of Texas at Arlington and recently served as Assistant Director for Neuroscience, Mental Health, and Broadening Participation at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Obama Administration. Prior to OSTP she spearheaded an NIH effort exploring racial disparity in its own grant awards, looking for ways racial bias presents itself and how to rectify it. In her current role she works to advance the consideration of women's health and sex and gender influences across the entire research continuum to improve women's health. She still works on suicide prevention, diversity and inclusion and health system workforce development where her strategy in all activities is to start with collaboration among science and technology, mental health and advocacy groups to foster communication and envision a better future for all people.
