A grape-like structure of AgPd/WO2.72 nanocomposite built by 2.3 nm AgPd nanoparticles (NPs) grown on the 40 × 5 nm WO2.72 nanorods (NRs) has been developed for selective hydrogen production from formic acid (FA). Ag48Pd52/WO2.72 exhibits an exceptional performance for FA decomposition with TOF = 1718 h-1 and Ea = 30.97 kJ/mol. This novel and reusable nanocomposites can be exploited for catalyzing the selective hydrogenation of R-NO2, as well as the one-pot synthesis of benzoxazoles from o-nitrophenol and aldehydes in the presence of FA as hydrogen source. Furthermore, we firstly introduce this facile approach to the one-pot synthesis of quinazoline with superior yields. The interesting development of material and method in this study will provide a new insight into the direct and green production of complex heterocyclic compounds that require multistep chemical synthesis.
