A series of polyphosphazenes with pyrene units linked to the backbone, with auxiliary trifluoroethoxy side groups, were synthesized and characterized.  Their photophysical, thermal, and mechanical properties were significantly affected by the pyrenyl side groups.  Meanwhile, by evaluating the information gained through monitoring pyrene excimer formation within polymer systems, the intra- and inter-chain interactions were studied.
