<br/>Metal-oxos are active intermediates in reactions critical for life on Planet Earth, water oxidation to oxygen in photosynthesis, and oxygen reduction in respiration. The ligand field theory of metal-oxo electronic structure, which accounts for the spectroscopic and magnetic properties of these complexes, also provides a platform for discussion of their roles in the mechanisms of inorganic and biological redox reactions.  <br/><br/> <br/>
