C-H1, C-O2 and C-X (X=F or Cl)3,4 bonds activation at [Tp'Rh(PMe3)] have been studied by our group. In the meantime, we are interested in the kinetic and thermodynamic property of C-N bond activation. Surprisingly, unlike previous study, the active fragment [Tp'Rh(PMe3)] was not able to cleave the C-N bonds of ammonia, propylamine, isopropylamine and diethylamine. Instead, κ2-Tp' amine coordination products were generated. On the other hand, no coordination products was produced when [Tp'Rh(PMe3)] reacted with 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluoroaniline, instead a rhodium hydride complex was observed as the only product. Which indicated that C-N bonds in amines with low pKa is more likely to be activated. Amines with different pKa values are being tested to confirm this hypothesis and the corresponding reaction mechanism will be studied.
