The environmental contamination and energy demand has been becoming a critical issue for environmental-related scientists and engineers. Substantial efforts have been made to develop tailored nanomaterials with highly catalytic efficiency and recovery ability for sustainable treatment of environmental pollutants. Among the environmentally benign nanomaterials used, various dimensions of ordered carbonaceous materials such as 0-D graphene quantum dots (GQDs), 1-D carbon nanotubes (CNTs), 2-D graphene family and 3-D ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) play pivot roles in a wide variety of applications including energy conversion and storage, sensing/detection, adsorption, purification and treatment of pollutants, removal of ions for water recovery and energy conversion and storage. In this talk, the fabrication and application of several carbon based nanomaterials including GQDs, reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and OMC-based nanomaterials to water purification and recovery (e.g. capacitive deionization) will be addressed and discussed.
