Surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRI) is a well-established method for the multiplexed bioaffinity detection of protein and nucleic acids. The sensitivity of SPRI can be enhanced through the use of gold and polysytrene nanoparticles decorated with ssDNA or ssRNA aptamers. In this talk, we describe how we employ nanoparticle-enhanced SPRI to detect microRNA and protein cancer biomarkers at picomolar concentrations.  Single nanoparticle SPRI microscopy is also demonstrated as a method of digital biosensing at femtomolar biomarker concentrations.
