<b>Abstract:</b> One of the key challenges for the design of highly active catalysts for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR), an important fuel cell reaction, is the tenability of the structure, composition and shape of the catalysts. This presentation reports a facile one-pot synthesis of composition and structure tunable core-shell, branched nanoparticles and nanoflowers of trimetallic PtAuNi as catalysts.  The investigation focuses on gaining a fundamental insight into the role of the detailed lattice structure, surface state and shape in the catalytic activity for MOR.  The effects of the atmosphere and temperature of thermal treatment are also studied. The correlation between the atomic-scale structure, composition, shape and surface and the catalytic activities will be discussed.
