Nucleic acid templated polymerization is an essential part of biological processes such as gene replication and transcription. Recently, researchers have seized on DNA templating to develop supramolecular assemblies and polymers with a precise control of dimension and shape at the nanoscale.1-3 In this context, we report our work on DNA-templating of molecules containing π-conjugated moieties, especially triarylamine derivatives containing cationic groups or nucleobases. Indeed, triarylamines are particularly interesting since these can form supramolecular polymers under particular conditions, possibly yielding unique “metal-like” properties with potential applications in (supramolecular) electronic devices and biosensing.4 We especially focus our research efforts on the relationship between the structures, the interactions at play, and the optical properties of DNA-templated assemblies. Our results show the influence of the DNA template topology and length on the supramolecular organization/polymerization, which are particularly interesting in terms of chiral induction effects.
