Running for elective office, even at the state or local level, requires money, time and a committment to know a lot about what issues are important to you and the public. It is a great experience, full of challenges and frustrations. There are always more "losers" in elective offices, but the preparation for being a candidate also gives you a credible voice even if you don't win your election.
