Extensive research has been done using fluorescent probes to study several properties of amphiphilic aggregates including mechanism of formation, critical micelle concentration, aggregate number and size, nanopolarity, and viscosity. This presentation will highlight the design and synthesis toward a novel difluorometric probe in order to help eradicate the limitations of previously utilized single fluorophore-containing probes involving both their interactions with the aqueous medium, and pinpointing the location in the reverse micelle system. This difluorometric compound could thus serve as a probe for various amphipathic systems including micelles, reverse micelles, and cell membranes.
